Janice K. Brewer took the oath of office as Governor of Arizona on January 21, 2009. She has lived in Arizona for 39 years, and has spent the past 27 of them serving the people and upholding the public trust. Prior to her succession to Governor -- in addition to twice being elected Secretary of State -- she also served as Maricopa County Supervisor, and as a highly respected member of both houses of the Arizona Legislature, where she rose to leadership of the State Senate. Governor Brewer and her staff are committed to addressing statewide issues related to substance abuse. Specifically, the Arizona Substance Abuse Partnership, chaired by the Governor's Policy Adviser for Health and Human Services, works to improve and expand the delivery of substance abuse education, prevention and treatment services throughout the state by working with multiple state agencies and organizations, including The Partnership for a Drug-Free America. The Governor's Office for Children, Youth and Families actively works with prevention, treatment and law enforcement professionals to improve coordination, identify and address gaps in services, and ensure efficient and effective spending related to substance abuse. The Governor's Office also supports the work of the Parents Commission on Drug Education and Prevention, which funds programs that increase and enhance parental involvement, and increase education about the serious risks and public health problems caused by the abuse of alcohol and controlled substances. |
